Membership & Structure

Definition
Full membership of the Harvard Black Students Association shall consist of primarily Harvard College undergraduates who have paid annual or lifetime dues and have made a commitment to help the organization achieve its mission statement. Any student may become a member.

Entitlements
The following rights shall be granted to members of the Harvard Black Students Association:
The right to run for any position on the Executive Board of the Harvard Black Students Association.
» The right to vote in elections.
» The right to vote on issues of constitutional interpretation and in cases of proposed amendments.
» The right to attend and raise questions at Executive Board meetings.
» The right to apply for scholarships and awards distributed by the BSA and BSA sponsors.
» The right to receive reduced admission rates for all public BSA events with the presentation of a membership card.
» The right to receive discounts on BSA merchandise.

NOTE: Non-dues paying Harvard students are welcome and encouraged to participate fully and freely in all aspects of the BSA, with the understanding that they lack the aforementioned entitlements.

Responsibilities
We encourage all BSA members to:
» Understand and promote the mission of the Harvard Black Students Association.
» Articulate, with the assistance of the Harvard Black Students Association Executive Board, matters of policy and general purposes.
» Make an effort to actively participate in all Harvard Black Student Association endeavors.
» Network with other Harvard Black Student Association members.
» Network with Harvard Black Student Association alumni.
» Take advantage of Harvard Black Student Association resources aimed at personal, career, and community development.
» Foster a sense of community with neighboring Harvard and Boston Area Black Student groups.
» Help maintain the social, economic, and political stability of the Harvard Black Students Association both while enrolled as a Harvard undergraduate and after becoming a Harvard graduate.

Dues
Paying dues is the only way to become a member of the Harvard Black Students Association. These funds are used by the Executive Board to cover a portion of the Association’s annual operational expenses. Formal membership drives and the collection of dues shall be conducted at the beginning of each academic term (September & February); however, one may join at anytime.
The annual & lifetime membership dues fee will be announced at a later date.

$35 for lifetime membership
$40 for lifetime membership + tshirt
